Thailand
Known for its stunning
beaches, breathtaking scenery and charismatic cities, Thailand is
the perfect holiday destination. Bordered by Myanmar,
Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia, the country has a deep history
and blend of cultures and is known for its friendly people.
Flowing through the heart
of Bangkok, Thailand's capital city, is the Chao Phraya River.
This busy waterway is always full of activity and on its banks can
be found some of the city's most impressive temples. The
magnificent Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho are not to be missed
and are highlights of any visit to Bangkok.
In
the lush green north of Thailand are the towns of Chiang Mai and
Chiang Rai. Here you can witness first hand the unique culture
and long held traditions of the Thai hill tribes. Or
perhaps even enjoy some elephant trekking through the beautiful
jungle landscapes.
Phuket, Thailand's
largest and most popular island has a reputation for being a lively
destination. This is true of some of the resorts, such as
Patong, however there are still a number of more remote and relaxed
resorts just waiting to be discovered.
The
picturesque province of Krabi on the Andaman Coast is just under
ninety minutes flying time from Bangkok. The pristine
beaches are fringed by towering limestone rock formations and the
calm Andaman Sea horizon is dotted with lush tropical islands.
Much of the area is national park,
including both the mainland and over 80 islands. Here the crystal
clear waters are perfect for snorkelling, diving and sailing.
Just
over
40 kilometres from Phuket, the six idyllic Phi Phi islands are the
perfect place to unwind. The stunning scenery combines
limestone monoliths with jutting cliffs, encircled by
pristine white sand beaches lapped by emerald
seas. The popular movie 'The Beach' was filmed in the
spectacular location of Maya Bay just off Phi Phi.
Less
than three hours by road from Bangkok is Hua Hin, located on the
Gulf of Thailand. Often referred to as the "Royal Resort", Hua
Hin has been used as a summer retreat since the 1920's by the Thai
royal family and other nobility. Hua Hin was also home to
Thailand's first golf course and now has the highest density of
courses in the country.
Koh Samui, Thailand's
third largest island is situated in the Gulf of Thailand and has
been welcoming visitors for years. Chaweng is the island's
most popular resort and has the longest and most beautiful beach in
Koh Samui.
