Sights of Cambodia
Sharing its borders with
Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, the captivating country of Cambodia has
an array of attractions to tempt you. Cambodia is
most famous for its famous 'Lost City' the awe inspiring Angkor Wat Temple
complex which sprawls over several kilometres. But there
are also a number of other attractions just waiting to be
discovered.
Phnom
Penh the historic, bustling capital city of Cambodia is often
considered one of the most beautiful French built cities in
Indochina. It has many tree lined boulevards, elegant colonial
villas and numerous temples.
Sihanoukville also known
as Kampong Som, is home to some beautiful beaches and a good base
for visits to Ream National Park.
Renowned for its rich
cultural diversity with over 20 different ethnic groups, the remote
and intriguing Rattanakiri province on the borders of Vietnam and
Laos is still one of the most undiscovered and captivating areas of
Indochina.
Days 1 & 2
Fly with Singapore
Airlines from London Heathrow to Phnom Penh via Singapore.
On arrival at Phnom Penh Airport you will be met and transferred to
the Intercontinental Hotel for a two night stay.
Day 3
After breakfast at the
hotel, set out on a city tour to visit the National Museum which
houses Khmer Art, the Royal Palace built in 1866 by King Norodom,
and the Silver Pagoda so named because of its floor which is made up
of 5,000 silver tiles. Finally visit the Toul Sleng Genocide
Museum and the killing fields.
Day 4
Following breakfast drive
from Phnom Penh to visit Angkor Borei, and take a speed boat to the
Temple of Phnom Da built in the 6th Century. This is the
believed site of the first Cambodian capital city. On the
return visit Phnom Chisor, Tonle Bati, Ta Prohm, Yeah Pean Temple
and Prasat Neang Khau, a favourite riverside spots of Cambodians.
Day 5
After breakfast, depart
for Kompong Cham, a former French trading post on the Mekong.
After a tour of the town centre, continue to Wat Nokor, an 11th
century sandstone Buddhist shrine. Continuing your journey
visit Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei, two hill top temples. Travel
south towards Kompong Thom, visiting the Phnom Santuk Mountain
pagoda to admire the sun setting over the countryside. Stay
overnight in Kompong Thom.
Day
6
After
breakfast depart for the little visited Sambor Prei Kuk temple
complex, located 35km north of Kompong Thom. Hidden in the
forest, the 47 temples pre-date Angkor Wat, being built between 615
and 650 AD. Later continue to Siem Reap and stay for three
nights at the Angkor Palace Resort and Spa.
Day 7
Following
breakfast visit the Angkor complex by taking an elephant ride from
the South gate of Angkor Thom and visit Bayon, Baphoun, Elephant
Terraces, Leper King Terrace and the Royal Palace area. In the
afternoon visit on of the astounding triumphs of the Khmer Empire,
Angkor Wat and watch the sunset over the stunning Cambodian
landscape.
Day 8
After
breakfast visit Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei, the birthplace of
Khmer classical style architecture. In the afternoon, drive
about 45 minutes into Siem Reap's countryside before arriving at the
boat quay. Board a wooden boat for a 90 minute ride on Tonle
Sap Lake, also known as the Great Lake of Cambodia to visit the
community of people living on floating houses on the Lake.
Day 9
Following breakfast,
visit the enchanting Ta Prohm Temple which remains in its original
state wrapped by the roots of enormous fig trees. The rest of
the day is at leisure before transferring to Siem Reap Airport for
your flights with Singapore Airlines to London via Singapore,
arriving London early the next morning.
