Legendary
Langkawi
Lapped
by the calm waters of the Andaman Sea, off the North Western coast
of Peninsular Malaysia, the enchanting island of Langkawi is the
largest of an archipelago of ninety nine islands. Shrouded in
fascinating myths and legends, this wonderful island is captivating,
relaxed and beautiful.Legends tell that Langkawi originally derived
its name from the words brown eagle, as a result a magnificent
statue of an eagle can be discovered at Kuah Jetty, watching over
the island.
Since the island gained
duty free status, the main town Kuah, located in the south east of
the island has become a shopper’s paradise and a visit here is an
ideal opportunity to purchase some of the local shell and marble
handicrafts. Tempted by stunning white powder sand beaches many
visitors to Langkawi choose to laze in the sun for the duration of
their stay.But there is much more to explore.
The Langkawi Cable Car
offers magnificent panoramic views of the island and the Andaman Sea
beyond.
Pulau
Payar Marine Park, 19 nautical miles south of Langkawi is a
fascinating haven for marine life, and is a wonderful place to
snorkel or scuba dive. Back on dry land, the Underwater World
aquarium is home to over 5,000 colourful fish and is worth a visit.
In the north west of the
island is Telaga Tujuh, a spectacular waterfall which is broken by a
series of seven natural pools, the area is surrounded by lush green
rainforest and is extremely picturesque. So scenic in fact that
legend has it that fairies once bathed here.
Pelangi
