Hokkaido
The tour takes in some of the most beautiful scenery in Japan.
Beginning in Tokyo, Japan's exciting capital city, you then fly to
the Northern island of Hokkaido, known for it's picturesque
landscapes, beautiful wildlife and numerous onsen.
Days 1 & 2
Fly economy
class with Japan Airlines from London Heathrow to Tokyo Narita.
On arrival, take the airport limousine bus to the Shiba Park Hotel,
stay for three nights in a twin room on a room only basis.
Days 3 & 4
At leisure
in Tokyo. Perhaps visit the famous shopping district of Ginza,
the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower Observatory
or one of Tokyo's impressive shrines such as the Meiji Shrine or
Asakusa Kannon Temple. Or even take a day excursion to Japan's
famous landmark, Mt. Fuji.
Day 5
Return to Tokyo Narita Airport by limousine
bus. Fly economy class with Japan Airlines to Sapporo New Chitose Airport on the Northern island of Hokkaido. Using your
14 day ordinary Japan rail pass travel to into the centre of Sapporo and
stay for two nights at the JR Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo in a twin
room on a room only basis.
Day 6
Day is at
leisure to explore Sapporo. Why not take a ride on the ropeway
to Mt. Moiwa for stunning views, take a stroll in O-dori Park or
even visit the Sapporo Beer Factory? Other attractions include
the Sapporo City Clock, the old Hokkaido government building,
Maruyama Park and Mt. Moiwa-yama for stunning views over the city.
Day 7
Travel by
train to the picturesque mountain resort of Furano in the centre of
Hokkaido, popular among ski
enthusiasts during the winter months and with hikers during the
summer. The New Furano Prince Hotel is a short
taxi ride from Furano Station, stay here for two nights in a twin
room on a room only basis.
Day 8
At leisure to enjoy the beautiful scenery of
Furano.
Day 9
Travel by train to Kamikawa Station the
gateway for Sounkyo, known for it's steep gorge and many onsen.
Sounkyo Gorge is at the centre of Mt. Daisetsu-zan National Park,
known as the roof of Hokkaido. The impressive scenery attracts
many visitors each year. The Hotel Taisetsu is a short taxi
ride from Kamikawa Station, stay here for two nights in a Japanese
style room inclusive of dinner and breakfast.
Day 10
At leisure in Sounkyo.
Day 11
Using your rail pass travel onwards to the hot
spring resort of Noboribetsu part of the Shikotsu-Toya Nataional
Park in South Western Hokkaido. Stay at the Noboribetsu
Manseikaku in a Japanese style room for two nights inclusive of
dinner and breakfast.
Day 12
Day to be spent at leisure in Noboribetsu.
Noboribetsu has a rich variety of scenery including forests, lakes
and marshes. There are ten different types of water in
Noboribetsu each containing different minerals, thus making it one
of the World's most exceptional hots springs.
Day 13
Travel by train to the port town of Hakodate,
once a busy trading port it has a superb mix of traditional
Japanese buildings and western style architecture. Other
attractions include it's popular morning market, the Old Public Hall
of Hakodate Ward, the old British consulate with it's tea lounge,
Higashi Honganji Temple, the Russian Orthodox Church, the Kanamori
Haberdashery Museum and the Hakodate Beer Hall. Stay overnight
at the Hakodate Kokusai Hotel in a twin room on a room only basis.
Day 14
Return by train to Sapporo for your final
nights stay at the JR Tower Nikko Sapporo Hotel in a twin room on a
room only basis.
Day 15
Transfer by rail to Sapporo New Chitose
Airport for an economy class Japan Airlines flight to London
Heathrow via Tokyo.
