Wondrous
Hong Kong
Much
more than just another fast paced Asian city, Hong Kong, is divided into three main areas, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon
which are separated by Victoria Harbour and the New Territories
which are further north and closest to the Chinese border.
Think of Hong Kong and many will imagine,
bustling streets framed by huge neon shop fronts competing for
attention. Or maybe the impressive skyscrapers on Hong Kong Island
that soar high into the clouds, a sultry junk sailing across
Victoria Harbour or locals practising their Tai-chi. All of this
can be found in Hong Kong but there is much, much more to be
discovered.
Kowloon is famed for Nathan Road's Golden Mile, it is one of the most popular shopping areas in Hong Kong
crammed full of boutiques, souvenir shops and electrical stores.
Ten minutes from Kowloon by Star ferry is
Hong Kong Island. Home to Central, which is the main financial and
banking district, Wanchai and Causeway Bay both of which have a
vibrant nightlife and excellent dining.
Probably one of the most visited attractions
on the island is Victoria Peak which dominates the skyline and is
accessible by the Peak Tram.
Other Hong Kong Island
attractions include the fishing village
of Aberdeen,
Stanley Market with it's array of souvenirs and Repulse Bay is
one of Hong Kong's best beaches.
Hong Kong has 260 outlying islands, of
which Lantau is definitely worth a visit. Easily
accessible by ferry from Central, it is almost double the size of Hong
Kong Island, and is famed for the world’s tallest
seated outdoor bronze Buddha.
Seafood lovers should head to Lamma Island to
enjoy the wide choice available there. Or step
back in time and enjoy a trip to Cheung Chau and Peng Chau islands
which still hold on to their traditional fishing village life
styles.
